The American engineering of Indian Motorcycles combines a historic silhouette with modern performance. The Scout series and the FTR rely on a liquid-cooled V-twin that requires accessories capable of supporting this power. Personalizing an Indian often involves improving the riding position and refining handling characteristics. The Scout family, including the Bobber and the new 1250 models, offers numerous possibilities for technical upgrades. Many riders find the stock suspension quite stiff on uneven road surfaces. Replacing the rear units with progressive shock absorbers significantly improves cornering stability. For the FTR, the emphasis lies more on sporty performance, where carbon fiber parts and high-quality exhaust systems help increase the motorcycle's agility.
Material choice is essential for a premium brand like Indian. Instead of standard plastic, we offer accessories made from machined aluminium and stainless steel. Adjustable levers provide more control over the clutch, while compact LED indicators maintain the bike's streamlined profile. These materials are more durable and better suited to withstand the heat generated by a large V-twin. A persistent misunderstanding is that all accessories for the Indian Scout are universally interchangeable between all model years. Since the 2014 introduction, several changes have been made to the frame and electronics, culminating in the new 1250 series from 2024. A seat or luggage rack for an early model Scout often will not fit the latest generation due to altered mounting points. Always check the specifications per product to ensure parts align correctly with the chassis.
A practical example involves mounting a different handlebar on the Scout Bobber. Due to specific wiring and brake line lengths, you cannot simply install any bar without affecting the electronics. We provide handlebars and adapters that account for the necessary cable slack. This prevents tension on the lines at full lock and ensures the motorcycle remains safely steerable in tight turns.
Modern Indian electronics can often correct small changes in backpressure. For a full system change without a catalytic converter, a new map is recommended to prevent the engine from running too hot.
Most accessories use standard bolts, but remember that Indian uses many American (inch) sizes. Ensure you have a good set of hex keys in both systems to prevent damage to bolt heads during assembly.
